There are many responsible dog owners, who take great care and look after their dogs. However, unfortunately, there are many unwanted, and abandoned dogs that need to be looked after in the hope that a new home can be found for them. We are proud to be associated with Freshfields Animal Rescue, which is dedicated to saving the lives of unwanted, homeless and abused animals.

We provide regular donations of food and sponsor some of their fund raising events.

The charities main aims and objectives are to provide sanctuary and relief to all animals who need it whilst providing a focus of learning, education and example in man’s association with animals.

The rescue actively encourages the neutering of companion animals and operates a feral programme that exceeds the bounds of that carried out by most rescues. In addition, they highlight the welfare needs of all farm animals.

The charity has two rescue centres:

East Lodge Farm, Ince Blundell, Liverpool L29 3EA
Which deals with all manner of animals from cats and dogs to the more unusual ferrets, chinchillas and other exotics.

Bryn Melyn, Nasareth, Caernarfon
Which is primarily a Horse and Pony sanctuary but is also home to numerous cats, kittens and other small creatures.

The charity receives no regular funding and is very grateful for any support offered.

We also help to educate people and teach responsible pet ownership in the hope that this will eventually help reduce the number of animals ending up in rescue centres, along with advice in connection with behaviour and nutrition.

Healthy Paws has launched a new Game and Millet complete food for adult dogs.

The food brings together a unique combination of Game meats that provide a wild, natural source of good quality proteins with Millet which is gluten free, high in B vitamins, helps hydrate the colon, is alkaline and easily digestible.

The benefits of Millet for the dog’s digestion are amazing and it is considered to be one of the least allergenic and most easily digestible whole grains. Millet is beneficial to the stomach, spleen and pancreas and lowers the glycemic index allowing the animal to utilise energy more evenly. It is a pre-biotic, and a good source of soluble and insoluble fibre.

The food follows the same holistic principles as the other foods in the Healthy Paws range with no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. There is no wheat or wheat gluten, no dairy products, no chicken or maize and no added sugar or salt. Herbs have been added to help promote natural health and vitality.

Lisa Horne, Managing Director of healthy Paws said, “We are absolutely delighted to be launching this food as we have been working on this and trialling it for a long time. In line with our philosophy, we have produced a unique food which will provide good health through natural nutrition. The use of Millet is alkaline and soothing and the results of which help boost energy levels, improve skin and coat, reduce allergies and enhance mental clarity.”

The winner of The Search for the Merseyside Entrepreneur of the Year 08’ (The Search) has been announced by Cherie Booth QC at an Awards Luncheon held at The Liner Hotel in Liverpool on Thursday 13th December.

Lisa Horne, 37, from Formby, with her fledgling business ‘Healthy Paws’ Ltd which supplies holistic dog food in the UK, was selected by the judges after applying a rigorous judging process to hundreds of high calibre entries from Merseyside’s budding entrepreneurs.

David Mairs, CEO of Bromborough based international asset managers, Dominique Faversham Group, and founder of The Search comments:

“Lisa shone through as the outstanding entrant in this year’s inaugural Search initiative not only due to her sheer determination, energy and commitment, but for her achievement in clearly identifying a gap in the pet food market and despite working with very limited resources and against stiff competition, successfully carving out an enviable niche and growing demand for Healthy Paws’ products. Lisa and Healthy Paws paint an exciting picture of entrepreneurship in our region and I look forward to The Search helping her realise the potential in her business over the coming 12 months.”

The Winner of The Search and Merseyside Entrepreneur of The Year 08 Announced by Cherie Booth QC

On receiving her award Lisa, a former veterinary nurse said:

“I am absolutely delighted to have won The Search. The business is at crucial stage in its development and this support will make such a difference to me. The guaranteed funding facility and advice and support from the business experts who will be mentoring me over the next year will really give me the confidence to drive my business forward. I have lots of ideas for expanding the product range and my distribution channels and I know this award is a huge opportunity for Healthy Paws.”

The Awards luncheon was attended by representatives from Government agencies, the religious, academic, business, charitable, media and sporting communities from across Merseyside and guests were entertained with live performances from Liverpool based dance troupe and semi-finalists in Britain’s Got Talent – ‘MD Productions’.

The Search would like to thank all the organisations who have backed and promoted the initiative across Merseyside and The Liner Hotel, Liverpool for its support with the Awards Luncheon.
